Event descriptionThe British Orienteering Championships are open to members of the British Orienteering Federation and to members of overseas IOF affiliated Federations. The event will consist of the Long Distance Championships at Balmoral (last used in 2014 for the WRE Race the Castles) and British Relay Championships at Torphantrick (near Ballater).
Terrain descriptionBalmoral is a spectacular setting in Royal Deeside, with a wealth of contour detail and rock features in a well-maintained mature plantation mainly of Scots Pine. The parking and race arena is adjacent to Balmoral Castle. There is a complex path network in parts, mainly trails used by the Royal Family over generations. Torphantrick is on a bend of the River Dee, a prime salmon fishing location. This is a well maintained and recently thinned forest, again mainly Scots Pine but with some areas of oak and beech. Another beautiful setting.
Training possibilitiesThe local club (MAROC) was involved in staging the Scottish 6 Days in 2017 and there will be opportunities to train over some of these areas.
Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc.Royal Deeside was very popular for the Scottish 6 Days, with fabulous scenery, castles, golf, mountain biking, hill walking and of course whisky.
