Short race reportSPRINTING THROUGH BUILDINGS - NOT EASY FOR SOME ! Never knew Saint Stithian's College had so many buildings and intricate little corridors and passages ! Enough to confuse the bejingos out of any regular Orienteer - never mind a poor beginner ! But you can't fool everyone - Lisa de Speville (AR), ladies Long Course winner and Dylan Hemer (RACO), mens Long Course victor, breezed over the terrain, hardly setting a foot wrong along the way. Tania Wimberley - in her first attempt at Planning and masterminding the latest event in the Short Course Series - put on two very fine platforms for close and spectacular racing. [Well, she passed the test with flying colours, now lets see - what else can we get her to do ? !!! - ED]. Very encouraging that we attracted a field of 100 cards (that is over one hundred competitors !). At the top, the times were close, with Jeremy Green (AR) only 15 seconds behind Dylan and then they were followed closely by Garry Morrison (AR). On the Short Course, it was Alex Kuhnast (AR) who led the field home, with Kirsty Green (AR) second overall and first lady. In the hunt too were Neville Stocks having a good run into 4th and our Kim Raban 5th overall. A couple of other efforts are worth mentioning : it was really nice to see Neville Roberts (RACO) about mid-field on the Long Course ; newcomer Leon Jacobs having a good result ; and then our budding junior hopeful, Joshua de Klerk, getting around the very complex (even more so for an 8 year old !), short course in a respectful time with not an error on his score card ! [Can you tell there is a proud uncle out here somewhere ? !!! - ED] Another great event, enjoyed by all that were there to experience it ! Make sure you get to be at the next one.
