Event description2017 - Orienteering Canada's 50th anniversary; Canada's 150th anniversary, the 50th Canadian Orienteering Championships - lots to celebrate! We are proud to bring you the Canada 150 Orienteering Festival, July 28 to August 7 - 11 days of orienteering that you won't want to miss! It all starts with the Eastern Canadian Orienteering Championships hosted by the Montreal Ramblers, followed by the Ottawa O-Fest, and culminating with the Canadian Orienteering Championships. You will get to orienteer on new and renewed maps in Montreal, Ottawa, Aylmer, Gatineau Park, Perth and Westport.
Terrain descriptionA huge variety of terrain from urban streets, golf course fairways and parkland to Canadian shield rocky forest! Check the webiste for detailed terrain for each individual event: http://www.ottawaoc.ca/OFest/index.php/race-info#maps
Training possibilitiesBack to the Barrens: Enjoy a day of self directed training on Tuesday 1st August 2017 at one of Ottawa’s most beautiful orienteering sites. A training map at 1:10 000 on legal paper will display a number of control sites which you may chose to visit in any order or on self designed courses. There is something for everyone. The Eco-Wellness Centre portion of the map displays Novice-Intermediate Level controls whereas the Barrens portion has Intermediate control sites close to the newly mapped mountain bike trail and more Advanced control sites scattered throughout the more technical areas of the map. Control sites will be open from 9 AM to 6 PM Tuesday August 1 and marked with numbered control flags (no SI or punches). Parking will be available at the Carp Ecowellness Centre (enter from 2386 Thomas A. Dolan Parkway) You may also chose to park along Thomas A. Dolan Parkway closer to the Barrens start (approximately 2 km east of the Wellness Centre – see rough location map). Maps will be available for purchase through the registration site and at the registration table in Montreal at the Eastern Canadians and at the O-Fest Night-O.
