Event descriptionThis is a three day event in the famous St Helens area of Tasmania (venue of World Cup long event January 2015). It consists of a bush sprint on Thursday afternoon, Middle Distance on Friday and Long distance event on Saturday. This 3 day event follows the Australian 3 Day Orienteering Championships and allows competitors for that event to stay on for an additional 3 days orienteering in some of Tasmania's most spectacular orienteering terrain.
Terrain descriptionSprint and Middle events are in rolling forest with extensive overgrown tin mining features (pits, watercourses, dams, erosion gullies, etc). Long is in open runnable forest with numerous granite rock features as well as steep gullies and some areas of marshland.
Training possibilitiesIt is hoped a training area may be available prior to the event.
Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc. This event is in the very scenic North East of Tasmania. As well as wonderful coastal scenery and long ocean beaches there are nearby mountain walking trails (eg Blue Tier). St Helens is a holiday town with hotels, restaurants and supermarkets.
