Event descriptionThe Scottish 6 Days has been staged every two years since 1977, and is widely regarded as one of the best multi-day orienteering events in the world. The event is very popular with overseas orienteers, typically 25% of the entry of around 4,000 runners of all ages. In addition to 6 days of forest orienteering there will be sprint orienteering and Trail O on the "rest day". Strathearn is mainly new to orienteering, though it is anticipated we will also use the classic area of Craig a Barns, the birthplace of Scottish orienteering.
Terrain descriptionThere is considerably variety in the area, including scenic areas towards Loch Earn consisting of open oak forest to the steep and rocky slopes above Dunkeld in the east.
Training possibilitiesIn the week preceding the event there will be training opportunities in nearby forests.
Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc.Strathearn, with Crieff in the centre, is a beautiful area of Highland Perthshire noted for beautiful lochs, glens and rolling hills. Most of the higher hills including Munros are to the west or north, so much of the area is Scotland in miniature. The area is very popular with tourists and includes lakeside activities, golf, walks and mountain biking.
