Event descriptionCome to the 2017 Oceania Orienteering Championships which herald a two week international orienteering extravaganza, from Easter 2017 (April 14-17), held in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city and one of the worlds’ most liveable. Following Oceania is the Middle Earth Orienteering Odyssey and World Masters Orienteering Championships ( WMOC2017 ) - part of World Masters Games 2017.
Terrain descriptionFriday 14 April - Oceania Sprint Unitec Institute of Technology campus, eight minutes from central Auckland. The campus has a mix of urban buildings, parkland and even some bush to challenge all. Saturday 15 April – Oceania Long Lake Ototoa on the Woodhill Peninsula. Complex, undulating to steep gully spur, with areas of very intricate contour detail. Approx. 1 hour north west of Auckland central business district. Sunday 16 April – Oceania Relay Lake Kereta on the Woodhill Peninsula. A mix of pine forest and open farmland, all on a sand dune base. Monday 17 April - Oceania Middle Ponganui Rd south of Auckland. Open farmland in limestone karst terrain. Features numerous valleys hemmed by large cliffs and boulder fields. Tuesday 18 April - Rest Day Travel south to Rotorua via Matamata (Hobbiton) visiting Middle Earth on the way, or Otorohanga and the world renowned glow worm caves. Wednesday 19 April – Middle Earth Classic Length. A mixture of commercial exotic pine and “enchanted” forest. Within 1 hour of Rotorua, the thermal wonderland of New Zealand. Thursday 20 April - Middle Earth Sprint - Rotorua Lakefront central business district featuring the historic government buildings, mud pools and geysers.
