Event descriptionFive days competition in one of the most beautiful parts of Hungary. This year the Hungaria Cup is the WUOC tour in one! So come and cheer on the World University Orienteering Championships while enjoying the festival spirit of the Hungaria Cup!
Terrain description Day 1 - Tatárdomb: Located 180-320 ms asl. Very intricate land forms made by erosion, where orienteering is exceptionally difficult (which is the reason to use a 1:4.000 map for a middle distance race). Virtually no stones or rocky areas. Lot of green parts with limited visibility and runnability. Undergrowth in places. Dry underfoot. Day 2 - Lillafüred: 90% urban and 10% forest area. Located between 250-320 m asl. Two generally flat areas connected by a steep hillside with an intricate system of walls and terraces. Visibility and runnability are excellent, except for the climbing. Day 3-4 - Csanyik: Located 200-350 ms asl. Rather big land forms. Moderately steep hills up to 60 ms height. Some areas with erosion features. Virtually no stones or rocky areas. Mainly clean beech forest with some green parts, which are mainly OK to run through. Undergrowth in places. Dry underfoot. Day 5 - Bükk-plateau: Located 600-875 ms asl. Moderately steep to steep hills up to 60 ms height. Some negative land forms. Many point features (lime burning places, charcoal burning places, pits, knolls). Many stones, rocky areas. Vegetation 90% forested (mixed beech and pine forest), 10% open area with scattered vegetation. Some undergrowth in places. Dry underfoot.
Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc.The finish areas can be reached from the accommodations in 15-20 minutes (on day 1-4) and in 50 minutes (on day 5). Therefore beside the running and spectating at WUOC, plenty of time remains for common orienteering activities, leisure and entertainment at the event centre. Beside the mikrosprint and beer-relay events all the particiapants have the possibility to play basketball, football at the sport fields of the University or relax in the swimming pool next to the event centre or the Hungaria Cup tent. The famous Cave Bath of Miskolc-Tapolca that is unique in Europe, gokart tracks, summer bobtracks, boating, adventure park, special playgrounds are only 5 minutes from the event centre by public transport. Miskolc's downtown (10 mins by public transport), the zoo, the recently renovated Castel of Diósgyőr and furthermore options are available to visit in the neighborhood.
