Event description | 3 events in 3 days giving visitors a chance to adapt to orienteering in the Australian forest (particularly in granite terrain) before the start of the World Cup series and the Oceania Championships in Tasmania on 2nd January 2015. Events will be between 1 and 2 hours northwest of Melbourne, from where Tasmania can be reached by direct flights or overnight car ferry. |
Terrain description | Day 1 will be an evening sprint in detailed gold mining terrain. Castlemaine is in the heart of Victoria's famous and historic gold mining region. Days 2 and 3 will each be run in the morning, before the heat of the day. They will be middle distance events in granite terrain with many boulders to navigate through. |
Training possibilities | This series is explicitly planned to offer the chance to train for the Tasmanian events. In particular, the granite terrain on days 2 and 3 will be found on days 3, 4, 6, 7 & 8 of the Tasmanian Series |
