Event descriptionWelcome to Switzerland between WMOC and WOC! Roundtrip & 3 Day Orienteering An orienteering+cultural tour through diverse Switzerland from the North with the convergence of the three countries incl. France+Germany, over San Gotthardo, the most notable Alpine pass to the “Mediterranean” Southern Switzerland and back to the fantastic mountainous scenery of Canton Valais. Our offer includes guided travel by train, funiculair/mountain railways, coach + boat. Accommodation is on a half board basis together with 3 Gala evenings including dinner and prize-giving. Supplementary entry to orienteering events if required. Ideally combined with the WMOC 2012 in Germany and the Swiss 5 Days 2012, which is integrated into the WOC 2012 based in Lausanne. For transfer from WMOC 2012 to the 4th Tour O Swiss 2012 please pre-book! Tour will finish in Lausanne. Our timetable will be adjusted to suit the programme with Opening Ceremony + Sprint Finals of the WOC 2012 in Lausanne-Ouchy. We are proud to offer the same pricing as for the 3rd Tour O Swiss 2010. * * * Day by day travel program: Day 1 + 2 in Basel Start of the 4th Tour O Swiss 2012 Day 3 Travel by train from Basel via Lucerne to Göschenen alongside both Lake Zug+Lucerne. Travel by coach to San Gottardo: The most important Alpine crossing point and language border. Visit a military fortress + the AlpTransit Info Center of the longest rail tunnel in the World currently under construction. Travel by coach to Ascona-Locarno Day 4 + 5 in Ascona-Locarno in Ticino Day 6 Travel by small gauge train through Centovalli (=100 valleys) into Italy and to Domodossola. Travel by coach over the Simplon Pass built by Napoleon I and on to car free Saas-Fee Day 7 in Saas-Fee Felskinn-Allalin: Metro Alpine (World's highest underground mountain railway track) Day 8 Travel by coach + train to Lake Geneva, the largest lake in middle Europe. Transfer to WOC 2012 in Lausanne
Terrain descriptionDay 1 – Prolog / Warm-up Event in Basel: Unique street and park orienteering crossing the 3 countries Switzerland, Germany and France in one event! Day 2 – Stage 1: National event up into the High Jura in the splendid Baselland Canton: Pit yourself against Switzerland’s best Day 3 – Extra orienteering event amongst big rocks and little lakes caused by glacial movement above the tree line in San Gottardo Pass Day 5 – Stage 2: regional O event in a typical chestnut forest above Ascona (Venue for the JWOC long distance in 2005) Day 7 – Stage 3: Regional O event in Saas-Fee surrounded by 4,000 m high peaks and glaciers Prize-giving ceremonies together with Gala evenings in Basel (Day 2), Ascona (Day 5) and Saas-Fee (Day 7, including prize-giving ceremony overall ranking)!
