Event descriptionSOUTH ISLAND ORIENTEERING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009 24 – 26 October 2009 organised by Dunedin Orienteering Club Day 1 – Sprint Race – Otago University and Polytechnic Day 2 – Middle Distance – Gabriel’s Gully Day 3 – Long Distance – Cuttance Block Entries close 5:00 pm Friday 9 October. 2009 Competitors must be affiliated to NZOF (be a member of an orienteering club) or an equivalent overseas body. If you do not belong to a club you may enter but must pay an extra participation fee. Day 1 – Saturday 24 October - Sprint – Otago University and Polytechnic Terrain Urban area Location Dunedin City Planner Riki Cambridge Controller Genevieve Webb Scale 1:5000 Contour Interval 2.5m Starts From 3:30 pm Day 2 – Sunday 25 October - Middle Distance – Gabriel’s Gully Terrain Pine forest and some open forest over old gold tailings and sluicings. Steep Location Near Lawrence, about 1 hour's drive SW of Dunedin on S.H. 8 Planner Annie Grant Controller Ake Fagereng Scale 1:10 000 (1:7500 course 10) Contour interval 5m Starts From 11 am Day 3 – Monday 26 October - Long Distance – Cuttance Block Terrain Pine forest, gully/spur, some open farmland Planner Jim Cotter Controller Brian Buschl Scale Red courses 1:10 000, Others 1:7500 Contour interval 5m Starts From 10:30 am SPORTIDENT (electronic control punching) will be used on all courses. SI cards can be hired for $3 (NZD) per day for the competition.
