Event descriptionThis is the 4th annual Vancouver Sprint Training Camp. The camp consists of 4 races and 6 extra training sessions. All sessions are sprint related and on sprint maps. The camp is geared towards elite runners wishing to train sprint orienteering. We typically get between 20 and 30 orienteers from Canada and the USA. International orienteers are also welcome and we try to provide accomodation to non-Vancouverites in the homes of local orienteers. The city of Vancouver has generally mild winters (0 to 10 degrees C), with little snow. However, the local mountains right next to the city receive a lot of snow allowing for a large number of skiing related activities.
Terrain descriptionVariety of urban, park, and forested terrains.
Training possibilitiesGVOC has over 30 sprint maps, and a few regular forest maps that can be used before or after the training camp. For a list of maps see:
Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc.Vancouver is the host for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. There are a lot of opportunities for nature activities in the Vancouver area, including downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoe running, as well as non-snow related activities.
