Event descriptionWe aim to offer high-quality orienteering at an unusually early date, shortening the long winter break in foot orienteering. The Upper Rhine Valley is noted for its mild climate with a very low probability of snow in March. Similarly to the traditional Spring Cup in Denmark, we organize a Relay and a Middle Distance. The Middle Distance is the as-yet earliest German Ranking Event, with an emphasis on technical rather than physical orienteering.
Terrain descriptionRELAY, Mar 14, 2009: Lower mountain terrain with varied land forms, 250-350 m above sea level. Frequent changes in vegetation, overall good runnability and visibility. Dense network of tracks and paths. In the northern part traces of the Second World War including numerous bomb craters and bunker ruins. MIDDLE DISTANCE, Mar 15, 2009: Predominantly flat terrain with areas of small sand dunes, 100 m above sea level. Frequent changes between pinewood and deciduous forest. Good to moderate runnability, but very limited visibility. Irregular network of tracks and rides.
Training possibilitiesRegional orienteering event / prologue on Mar 1, 2009 in the forest adjacent to the Middle Distance event on Mar 15, 2009.
