Event description6 day orienteering competition, the best 4 days will be used to calculate the winner in each class. A & B courses for classes M/W 10,12,14,16 Long & Short M/W 18,20,21,35,40,45,50,55,60,65,70 M/W 75, M/W80 Colour Coded courses for novices Free String Course for young children SPORTident punching system Event Centre and Event Camp Site at Bryn Bach Country Park, Tredegar. S Social programme.
Terrain descriptionA mixture of complex open limestone areas with many sink holes and rock features; an open moorland area with many complex areas of former small scale industrial extraction; areas of mining wasteland, open but complex and intricately contoured; an area of mixed ancient woodland which suffered from commercial afforestation and is now being slowly restored to its former broadleaf state.
Training possibilitiesTraining Event on August 2nd 10k from the event centre. There is a permanent O course around the event centre at Bryn Bach Country Park. Maps for this, and other permanent courses, can be downloaded from the local club website, South Wales Orienteering Club
Holiday activities,nature,hiking etc.Situated on the Southern edges of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Black Mountains where walking, mountain biking and pony trekking are available. Sailing is available at Llangorse Lake and some of the competition areas are within the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, with interesting industrial archaeology and the oportunity to go down a coal mine at the National Mining Museum at the Big Pit in Blaenavon. This and the other National Museums in Wales (the National Museum in Cardiff and St Fagans National History Museum near Cardiff)are free. You could extend your holiday by visiting the very beautiful coastal areas of The Gower and the Pembrokeshire National Park. There is a wonderful coastal path all around the Pembrokshire Coast
