Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc.Puolanka is well-known of its versatile nature - it offers great hill scenery´s and views. One of the best known sightseeings in Puolanka is Hepoköngäs Nature Reserve which was established in the area surrounding one of the Finland's highest (24 metres) natural waterfall, Hepoköngäs. Located in the magnificent Kainuu hill landscape the waterfall is a popular sight, which is also accessible for disabled. The river valley is lush and the gorge rugged. Half of the nature reserve is covered by spruce dominated old-growth forest in the shelter of which numerous threatened and rare species thrive. Paljakka Ski-resort offers action for winter and summer. During the summer, traveller can enjoy fishing in Paljakka fishing park or in the rivers of the area. For motor activities you can go to ATV trails. For hikers there is plenty of hiking routes available in Puolanka area - for example Pirunkirkko nature reserve (near Paljakka) area is excelent day trip destination with good footpaths. In Pirunkirkko day cottage you can watch and hear the river Louhi flow slowly past by. From Pirunkirkko you can also enter to other hiking routes. River Kiiminki is perfect for canoeing and fishing - these possibilities are also available in other places in Puolanka - for example in Saarijärvi wilderness and fishing area. For cultural activities you can find from Puolanka for example Askanmäki house museum area where is also summer theatre shows during the summer. Other house museum areas are Puolankapirtti and Tiainen. For rock and metal music fans there is Lankafest music festival in July just after the Kainuun Orienteering Week.
