Short race reportAbout 100 enthusiastic orienteers had a nice experience on Dullstroom, when they raced a short town orienteering race mostly on the streets and paths in Dullies on Saturday, February 10th. Visiting British National Squad and some top athletes from Hungary gave an international touch to the event Matthew Crane (here in photo) from the U.K. Squad was the fastest man on the 7,76 km course (the course length is measured as straight line between the control points). Matt's time around the 27 controls points was 47:33 minutes. "It was pretty tough, just as expected. The weather was burning hot and the terrain in some areas very dense. I also had to be careful with some broken glass and one loose dog along the route. Anyway, this was definitely a nice and different experience and a good part of training," said the winner. Fastest woman was Pippa Whitehouse (also British National Team), with 57:05 minutes. Fastest South African orienteer was Dylan Hemer, with a time of 1:00:18 and best S.A. woman Tania Wimberley with a time of 1:13:07. Next year, we wish to have orienteering in Dullstroom again. More locals would be very welcome! by Olli-Pekka Kärkkäinen
