Event descriptionNorth Atlantic Orienteering Championships is an open competition in wonderful Greenland. This year, we have a five stage event, with three days in Nuuk - the Capital of Greenland - and two days in desolate Qooqqut. Qooqqut is a small paradise in Greenland, with a few summer houses and a restaurant with accommodation. The only way to get there is by a one hour boat trip. The event combines a single (greenlandic) city sprint, with two barren mountain races and two races in the vegetation rich Qooqqut. No forest, but very difficult orienteering.
Terrain descriptionNuuk City: A small town, with mountainbike space between the buildings, offer nice and confusing sprint orienteering. Quassussuaq mountain: 1:10.000 maps, with hardly any paths on it, but lots and lots of rock. Even though you have good visibility, keeping your track is difficult, and challenge even experienced orienteers. "Qooqqut" means 'the Ravines', it is a summer get-away for locals in Nuuk. Situated an hours boat-ride away, it is a moraine formed by ice and water which sits in a sheltered fjord allowing for a lot of vegetation compared to the surroundings. The slopes and vegetation makes for interesting and difficult orienteering, and the restaurant makes the stay there unforgetable!
Training possibilitiesIn Nuuk there are two permanent courses. One with controls and one photo orienteering. Www.nasp.gl/findvej
