Event descriptionBritish Orienteering Championships Saturday 31st May 2014 - British Long Distance Championships, Thrunton and Callaly. Sunday 1st May 2014 - British Relay Championships, Cragg Estate and Chesterhope Common Competitions also open to non-British runners.
Terrain descriptionLong distance: Callaly was previously used for the British Orienteering Championship Relays in 1991, and contains a mixture of natural woodland and moorland, with a rich tapestry of contour and rock detail, including many some magnificent rock pillars. Thrunton Woods have not been used recently, but have a rich orienteering history including the Northern Championships in 1975. The woods consist of mixed forestry commission plantation, and a plateau of mature runnable pine forest with rock and contour detail. Relay: The Cragg Estate and Chesterhope Common are open grassy moorland areas, with a wealth of contour and rock detail resulting from previous mining activity. They are sure to provide a fast but technically challenging setting for the relay competition
Training possibilitiesScottish Orienteering Championships the weekend before, 24th/25th May.
