Event descriptionFin5 is an annual international Finnish orienteering week with rotating organizers and locations attracting 3000-4000 participants in either competition or open courses. The event consists of five competitions spread over six days and with chase starts in the Elite classes during the last event day. In 2012 the event will be arranged in the terrains of Teuva and Jurva in South Ostrobothnia in the western parts of Finland. The competition centres in Pässilä in Jurva and Parra in Teuva offers competitors and amateurs alike surprising and challenging terrains among the vast expanses of cultivated land. The event will start with to two competitions in Pässilä, a middle distance race on Monday July 9th and a long distance race on Tuesday July 10th. Wednesday July 11th is a rest day with opportunities to visit local attractions and events. The three last events will be held at the skiing center of Snowpark Parra, consisting of two long distances and one middle distance, with the last event held on Saturday July 14th. For a maximum experience of orienteering in Finland, participants in Fin5 should also consider visiting the Kainuu Orienteering Week to be held in Eastern Finland on 1–6.7.2012.
Terrain descriptionThe Nikkilä area hosted the world's largest orienteering relay, the Jukola relay, in 2001. The area includes several technical slopes and is in general very open and easy to run. The Parra area is dominated by the hill at the center of the skiing center and the area includes both steep slopes with some very technical areas as well as pine forests with excellent visibility. Both areas have parts suitable for younger participants, with plently of pathways and landmarks that ensures a safe competition environment. The competition maps will be dated 6/2012 with the map scale 1:10000 and a contour interval of either 2,5 meters (Pässilä) or 5 meters (Parra). The map size will be A3+, A3, and A4.
