Event descriptionFor the first time, the North American Orienteering Championships will include the IOF sanctioned North American Regional Championships & WRE's in sprint, middle and long. This event is part of a larger North American Orienteering Festival June 26 - July 21, 2010 with events in both the United States and Canada, included Whistler Barebones 2010 at Whistler, site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. The festival will also include the US Championships and the Rocky Mountain Orienteering Festival, in Colorado.
Terrain descriptionThe terrain is a combination of open, runnable coniferous forest, with both very detailed as well, as subtle contour areas. The middle and long events will be in areas where route choice will be critical to avoid unnecessary climb.
Training possibilitiesTraining is available at a series of events to be held in Washington State, near Spokane, just a few hours south of Cranbrook, BC. These events will include both the US Championships and US Orienteering Convention.
Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc. This series of events will provide an excellent opportunity to explore the Rocky Mountain Region of the NW United States and SW Canada. Activities may include, hiking, climbing, white water rafting, cycling on many kilometers of old railway lines and mountain bike trails. This is some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.
