| Event description | O-Ringen is Sweden's biggest sports event and the world's biggest orienteering festival. It is held annually, during July, in a different location each year. The competition, which started in 1965, was originally called the "5-Days". As the name suggests, it takes place over a five day period, with an individual race on each day. |
| Terrain description | Where competition is concerned the terrain in Halland has a lot to offer and there will be a variation which will put most orienteers to the test with everything from hilly spruce forest to runnable beech forests and sand dunes. During stages 1 and 2 in the scenic Simlångsdalen the participants will run a long distance race for stage 1 and a middle distance race for stage 2. Both with nice varied terrain, from old spruce forest to nice beech forests. Mostly good to very good runability and averagely to very hilly. The arena is situated in the very beautiful Simlångsdalen lake network. Stage 3 is held at Villhärad/Ringenäs which is just a stones throw away from the sea. This area offers a middle distance race, where it will be all about navigating your way through the sand dunes and the complex dune areas. Mostly good runability and very easy running, but there are some green areas with less runability which await us. The final two stages are up in Nyårsåsen which is a ridge which has many paths with varied forest. Complex slopes which will be the decision maker for many and where accurate orienteering will be required all the way to the last control. Average to very hilly. |
