Event description | The Scottish 6 Days Orienteering Event is held every two years in late July or early August. The idea of a multi-day event was born out of the 1976 World Championships in Scotland, and the first ever Scottish 6 Days was held in the following year. We were last in Strathspey/Srath Spè in 1995 when the event was memorable for its superb terrain and the hot sunny weather. In 2007, we return to Strathspey but this time with Grantown-on-Spey/Baile nan Granndach rather than Kingussie/Ceann a' Ghùithsaich as the base. We can promise you a great time in the best terrain that Scotland can offer. Travel times to all six competition areas and the training areas are short. The last day finishes just across the road from the Event Centre! Spey 2007 is one of the events being generously supported by Highland 2007 and EventScotland. Highland 2007 has a very large programme of events and activities throughout the Highlands of Scotland, all of which will be celebrating Highland culture and promoting the Highlands as a great place to live and to visit. |
Training possibilities | It is planned to offer coaching to both seniors and juniors in the week immediately before the start of Spey 2007. We will be using forests which are representative of the wide range of terrain in the 6 Day competition itself, and they will include the official event training areas. Scottish coaches will work in association with the National Orienteering Centre at Glenmore Lodge, Aviemore. This is a major opportunity to improve your fitness and navigational skills in typical Scottish terrain so that you are ready to maximise your performance during the following week. |
Holiday activities, nature, hiking etc. | The towns and villages of Badenoch & Strathspey/Bàideanach agus Srath Spè are inside the Cairngorms National Park/Pàirc Nàiseanta a' Mhonaidh Ruaidh with all its many attractions. If you decide to come, you can be assured of an excellent holiday as well. |
